Ostwald ripening – theoretical description and simulation.

Tato práce se zabývá popisem Ostwaldova zrání trojrozměrných ostrůvků deponovaných na rovinných površích. V první kapitole jsou představeny dvě teorie Ostwaldova zrání: LSW teorie založená na aproximaci středního pole a mnohačásticová teorie vycházející z řešení difuzní rovnice v kvazistatické aproximaci. Ve druhé kapitole je popsán algoritmus numerického řešení rovnic získaných z mnohačásticové teorie. Výsledky numerického řešení jsou ve třetí kapitole srovnány s předpověďmi LSW modelu. Bylo zjištěno, že předpovědi standardní LSW teorie popisující systémy s dvourozměrným transportem hmoty jsou v ostrém protikladu jak s výsledky získanými z dokonalejšího mnohačásticového modelu, tak s experimenty popsanými v uvedených pramenech. Mnohačásticový model založený na difuzní rovnici poskytuje výsledky konzistentní s jinými teoriemi i experimentem.
Phase separation in dilute solutions of polymers and surfactants

This bachelor's thesis deals with conditions of phase separation in system of polyelectrolyte (sodium hyaluronate) and cationic surfactant (cetyltrimethylammonium bromide). Separated phase was studied by fluorescence measurement with Nile red as a fluorescence probe and there were also specified rheological properties using flow tests and frequency oscillatory tests. Behaviour of separated microgel was also observed in solution of NaCl.

Morphology, swelling and dynamic mechanical properties in broad frequency range of the model gels were tested. The vitrification of gels was found sensitive to microstructure of polymer network and to solvent content and to polymer-solvent interaction, but not to the macroscopic morphology of the gel. The low-frequency mechanical response was found sensitive to both polymer network properties and hydrogel morphology. Lightly crosslinked hydrogels showed relatively high mechanical losses in the rubbery plateau region, due to physical association of chains. Fused-particles type hydrogels revealed a weak secondary relaxation at low frequency, ascribed to motion of the dangling particles aggregates. Investigation of external stimuli-influenced temperature-sensitive polymers behavior studied by spectroscopic methods

Temperature-sensitive polymers or "smart" polymers are materials that undergo phase separation initiated by temperature change. Some of these polymers possess phase separation temperatures close to human body temperature (37 C), thus offering a wide range of potential applications in controlled drug release or gene delivery systems, bioseparations, tissue engineering, etc. Of the polymers with a phase separation temperature close to 37 C, poly(N- isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) and poly(vinyl methyl ether) (PVME) are perhaps the most important and were selected as the subjects of this study. In this work, these two polymers have been examined in the presence of low molecular weight additives, and their colloidal stability evaluated using 1 H NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) and time-resolved 1 H NMR spin-spin relaxation time T2 experiments. An improved model of the two exchangeable states was applied for a more detailed characterization of the phase separation process. Membraneless organelles - physiological functions and experimental techniques of their study

Membraneless organelles, also called biomolecular condensates or protein droplets, are liquid spheric bodies present in an every cell compartment. Their composition and density is only slightly different from their surroundings. They consist of hundreds of types of proteins and nucleic acids and they are responsible for various biological functions. They are formed via liquid-liquid phase separation that creates a phase boundary in a solution of macromolecules in order to decrease the low free energy of the system. This process is initiated by external stress, internal cell processes or mutations in DNA. There are many identified types of membraneless organelles and each year there are more added on the list. Their functions include localization of macromolecules and related biochemical reactions, tuning of biochemical reactions and transport of macromolecules throughout the cell. This thesis presents a brief summary of the topic of membraneless organelles with several specific examples and very briefly describes several selected methods of their study.
